Case study - Essay ExampleThe fact that there is a personal relationship with a friends son affects the underlying professional relationship in connection to probationer. This is a major contributor to a state of conflict of interest. Changing of probation policemans is in the best interest for each of the parties as they could face accusations of conflicts of interest and could be placed on leave or fined. In the case of the probationer, he could face accusations of bargaining with me, the officer, as there is proof of a mutual interest. All positive aspects occurring between the probationer and the officer could be diluted as a result of such conflict of interest. Future research should accurately conceptualise role conflict and not apparently infer that officers experience role conflict on the basis of community correctional officers having differing role preferences (LearningExpress. 2007). One strategy that might be useful is the exploitation of an occupationally specific ques tionnaire focusing on the tensions between the welfare and enforcement aspects of the officers role. Such a questionnaire should differentiate between internal or personally based conflicts (intra role conflict) and external or organisationally based conflicts (inter-role conflict) (Mendicino, 2010). This approach appears valid in the present study, as both forms of conflict were related to emotional exhaustion. Such an approach would enable a more sophisticated understanding of the tensions faced by community correctional officers and clarification of the issues surrounding whether community correctional officers experience role conflict. If there is tell apart of discriminatory against probationers in favour of a friends son, it is not appropriate to continue working on the case. There are other levelheaded repercussions emerging against the probation agency. Probation authorities must adhere to lawful procedures, but must not adhere to any provisions with formal requirements of

Romantic and Neoclassic artwork Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words
Romantic and Neoclassic artwork - Essay ExampleWhile neoclassical artwork mainly foc roled on the Roman memorial with the elevation of Roman heroes and emphasis on rules and order, romantic artwork on the other hand arose during the age of passion gave the perception of being a reception to the classical and the Neoclassical artwork which were contemplative in nature (Litvak 35). While neoclassical artwork was mainly identified from their classical themes with the use of archaeological settings and the use of classical costumes, romantic artwork was mainly identified by their bold and dramatic paintings with the main themes being on heroism, exoticism, individualism and increased nationalism. Consequently, it was evident that eon neoclassical art was all about logic, reason and attempted objectivity, romantic art could be more associated with intuition, imagination and emotion, and mostly accepted subjectivity. And while romantic art bold and dramatic art characterized romantic a rt, neoclassical art was mainly characterized with portraits and paintings without

The immigrants by Margaret Atwood and Borders by Thomas King Essay
The immigrants by Margaret Atwood and Borders by Thomas King - Essay ExampleWhen asked of her citizenship, she always declares that she is a Barefoot. It takes her and her son days to pass through the borders going to Salt Lake City because of her unwillingness to identify herself as a Canadian. She also brings a visual modality of food to avoid buying from convenience stores and dresses up in their old ways because she did not want crossing the border looking like Americans (King 133). The vote counter observes his develops resistance of acculturation and allows her to do what she likes. He can guess what she is about to tell the immigration personnel but never contradicts her even up though her manners would cause a big delay. The mothers attitude is opposed to her daughters. Laetitia, shows clear signs of acculturation. The latter is more lenient and specify for assimilation because she claims that her Dads American (King 131). She likes living in Salt Lake City on her own, a nd boasts about the citys improvements with her mother. Despite her defiance of acculturation, the mother is not totally against other cultures. The fact that she marries an American illustrates her openness to assimilation. Likewise, she pays a visit to her daughter to see Salt Lake City and buys Mel from duty free a souvenir hat as a sign of friendship.Nevertheless, while the persona expresses resistance to assimilating the immigrants culture or behavior, she admits the fact that she herself is an immigrant, saying, I wish I could sink them/and so forget myself (Atwood 31). This means that while she loathes the immigrants, she recognizes her complete assimilation and acculturation to an identity that other American immigrants have established. By forgetting the immigrants she observes, she could then forget herself. This implies that the narrator despises the thought of being an immigrant as it reminds her of her own lack of identity. The persona attempts to show contrast between her and the immigrants as she

Different Alcohols Essay Example for Free
Different Alcohols EssayThe length of time the pee is wakeed for is authoritative as a short period of time will not warming the water supply sufficiently enough to take accurate results. However, change the water for too long will boil the water to 100i C and therefore the results will not show any trend, as this is the maximum temperature for water. I chose to lovingness the water for 150 seconds (2. 5min) as this was a suitable time. METHOD * Set-up apparatus as shown in diagram. Fill calorimeter with 100cmi of distilled water and record temperature in i C with thermometer for 30 seconds to allow an accurate reading.Read thermometer at eye level in order to reduce parallax error due the reflection of light by dint of the glass. Select burner and check the height of the flame is 4cm using a ruler. Change length of wick using tweezers to change the height of the flame. Weigh the burner filled with the in demand(p) intoxicant with the lid on it using a top pan balance. Ensure the balance is on a flat stable surface and amaze burner on pan gently in order to keep reading accurate. I shall routine the first quadruplet alcohols in the series methanol, ethanol, propan-1-ol and butan-1-ol.Record atomic pile in grams to the nearest hundredth. Clamp the calorimeter 7cm above the top of the burner and place lid on calorimeter properly. Measure the height of calorimeter above burner using a ruler. Place burner on a arouse-proof mat, under calorimeter remove burner lid and light immediately with a match. Withdraw match immediately as the heat of the wood combusting could effect the temperature of the water in the calorimeter. Begin timer immediately when wick is lit. Do not remove lid before match is lit as some alcohol may evaporate and alter the burners weight before it is lit.Plunge stirrer up and down once every 5 seconds to ensure uniform heating. During heating keep lid on calorimeter to prevent the water evaporating and heat loss. Record water temperature every 30 seconds by using thermometer at eye-level. Do not remove thermometer from water to take reading, as this will change its temperature. After 150 seconds of heating extinguish flame by replacing burners lid. Record the waters final temperature in i C. Re-weigh burner and record mass in grams to the nearest hundredth. Repeat 3 times and take an average of results. Repeat for all four alcohols.Calculate naught released by each alcohol per gram using the formula below Energy Released per gram= C x Mw x /T (J/g) Mf Where, C= specific heat capacity of water (4. 17 J/gi C) Mw=mass of water (g) /T=change in temperature (i C) Mf=Mass of fuel used (g) Calculate energy released per mol using average J/g and the following formula Energy released per mol= Mr x J/g (J/mol) Where, Mr=molecular mass J/g=Energy released per gram (average) Safety Precautions Because this investigation involves the use of open flamed burners, I will destiny to be very careful in the laboratory.I will remove all loose pieces of clothing that may fall into flame and set light. I will wear safety goggles to protect my eyes as I am heating a liquid, which could spit, into my eyes when hot. I will use a heat-proof mat to protect the workbench from the heat of the burner. I will abide by all standard laboratory rules such as Do not run. Results PTO CONCLUSION The graph shows that as the length of the molecule chain in an alcohol increases so to does the amount of energy it gives of when completely combusted. The curved line of best fit shows that the relationship is not proportional. The energy released increases because as the length of molecule chain increases because the larger chains only need a small input of energy to break the original bonds yet gives out a larger amount of energy when the new bonds are formed. The energy of the products is degrade compared to that of the reactants in longer chain molecules than smaller ones. The results support my prediction in the way th at I predicted that as the length of the chain increased so to would the energy released. However, I also predicted that the graph would show directly proportional results, which it does not. My prediction also stated that the results would be lower than the theoretical values due to heat loss which proved to be correct. EVALUATION I believe the method I used was as accurate as possible with the equipment provided, although the results do not show this. The energy released per mol values are a lot lower than the theoretical values due to heat loss. Because of the large amount of heat loss the results are quite varied and unreliable.I only encountered one anomalous result, which is highlighted in red on the results table. I believe this is because of less heat being lost during this test than the was lost during the other tests for propan-1-ol. To overcome this problem barrier could be placed around the burner to shield it from drafts and guide the heat towards the calorimeter. I beli eve that the results show a curve because more heat was lost for the small-chained molecules due to the lower temperatures of flame being blown away more slow than those flames with higher temperatures.

Treat the Earth Well Essay Example for Free
Treat the Earth Well EssayTreat the earth hale it was non given to you by your parents, it was loaned to you by your children. We do not inherit the Earth from our Ancestors we borrow it from our Children. We do not inherit the Earth from our Ancestors, we borrow it from our Children is an ancient Indian proverb that is reverberating in my ears. It was articulated by Craig flank lately at a Global Shapers Johannesburg hub meeting. Its pure simplicity is quite piercing because it shows the effect of our ancestors actions on our current situation and it also serves as a warning on our current actions impact on our children. The architects of Apartheid effectively created a problem for everyone by creating artificial boundaries that were inherently going to be brought down. Anything that is artificial does not have staying power. The social, political and economic separation that was created took the country towards the extreme right swing of the pendulum. This ensured that the minority population enjoyed the majority of the social, political and economic benefits. When the pendulum swung back in the democratic era, it reversed the exclusivity of the social and political benefits from the minority while the economic ones are still lagging far behind. The constitution of the country has guiding principles that admirer the pendulum to swing to a neutral position at the centre and not to the extreme left because that is also dangerous.Broad-based Black Economic Empowerment policies are meant to pelt along the swing to the middle point which makes them temporal policies that cannot be allowed to stay on forever because they will swing the country to the extreme left. The greatest blind placement suffered by the architects of apartheid was that they disregarded the circular nature of life where things swing back. The result is their children became adversely affected when their policy of separation unravels. This is also a warning to the architects of change policies in South Africa to make sure that they understand the circular nature of life and factor it into the design of the policies. There is currently a lot of protection in moving the economic pendulum from the status quo where only the minority benefits because of fear of an uncertain future. The problem is that the greater the resistance to economic transformation a greater amount of energy is going to be invested and extreme measures taken to make sure that the economic pendulum swings back but to the other extreme which could have unintentional consequences. The reality is that the pendulum will swing back but at what cost to the country and its economic prospects? A variation of the proverb Treat the earth well it was not given to you by your parents, it was loaned to you by your children can be applied to the issue of land so brazenly dealt with by Pieter Mulder. Infrastructure is another recent example. The youth today are effectively going to be paying for the infrastru cture based on decisions by sight who are likely not going to be there when the full impact of the cost will be felt.So the issue of e-tolls provided a victory to the litigants who successfully argued for the interdict to blockage the e-tolling system temporarily. It is an classical political victory of making sure that people concerns are heard and for the separation of powers between the Executive, Judiciary and the Parliament. It also raised important questions about who benefited from the R20 billion tenders and also questioned the fairness of the tariff structure and who will benefit from these fees.So transparency was the winner principle at the end of the day. all the same it is a Pyrrhic victory because the ultimate solution sought by the litigants is the shifting of the burden of paying for the roads from the road users to all taxpayers. So the fanny line is that the young people will be bearing the burden of the long term cost of this e-toll through increased taxes or less control from the government while the older people will be enjoying the retirement funds returns generated from this through the bonds they bought.Furthermore this places the user-pays-principle which is much more equitable for future generations at risk which in turn scares away the investors especially in areas where we are suffering from an infrastructure deficit. So we might be solving the infrastructure growth problem by borrowing from our children to fight power politics of old people who have no enduring interest in intergenerational equity. Young people are the ones who should be shaping the decisions that affect their future represented by their informed and decisive leaders while making sure that they dont inherit the unhelpful habits of their ancestors.

United States as expansionist country Essay Example for Free
United States as expansionist country EssayThe United States has been an expansionist country since the pilgrims landed. Until the US established them selves as a definite cosmea power, they had sh aver themselves to be a very expansionist country. The imperialism of the 1900s may have departed from past actions in terms of size and ambition, but the primal reasons and drive for expansion remained the same throughout much of Americas history. Past expansion of the US includes the Manifest Destiny-driven push to the West coast, the annexation of Texas, and the procure of Alaska. Around the close of the nineteenth century and the beginning of the twentieth, the United States was an expansionism such events include the Spanish-American War and the annexation of Hawaii, Guam, Puerto Rico, and the Philippines. The Spanish-American war was fought in Cuba and the Philippines and was the result of American noise in the ongoing Cuban War of Independence. The U.S. joined because of the Spanishs treatment of the Cubans and they blamed Spain for the sinking of the USS Maine. The war only lasted for ten weeks however, the U.S. gained Hawaii as the fiftieth land and true Guam, Puerto Rico and the Philippines as territories. At the time, the U.S. was very jingoistic and thought they could just take what they cute (B). This idea is what led to expanding impertinent of the continental U.S.The U.S. gained Guam, Puerto Rico, and the Philippines as a result of the Treaty of Paris in 1898. The U.S. also gained temporary control of Cuba, which somewhat still exists today with Guantanamo Bay. The U.S. definitely received the favorable end of the deal. The Kingdom of Hawaii was sovereign from 1810 until 1893 when resident American businessmen overthrew the monarchy. Hawaii was annexed by the U.S. but did not become a state until 1959.The United States began expanding ever since the original thirteen colonies. Every country desires additional land for resources and economic reasons. After the United States had established itself as a world power, its expansionism did not stop there, the US then set its sights on the countries it sought, in particular the Philippines, Puerto Rico, Guam, and Hawaii. Not to mention that the other world powers were not picking and choosing what they wanted as well, Britain and Japan were claiming all the weak territories they could on the other side of the world (A). America has also always been very interested in its own economy and making sure that no European countries such as Germany and Britain could dominate economically (C).
